Strategic / Strategic Oversight
Members are the subscribers to the Trusts memorandum of association. They have an overview of governance arrangements of the Trust and have the power to appointor remove Directors.
- The Mid-Trent Multi Academy Trust Board is accountable for the Trust. The Board has a strategic role in the running of all schools within the Trust. The Board may delegate to any forum as they consider desirable to be exercised by them.
- The Finance, Audit and Risk (FAR) Committee is an advisory board, and its purpose includes ensuring internal scrutiny is effective, monitoring risk management processes, providing assurance over financial systems and operational controls and to report findings to the Trust Board.
- The Chairs Forum provide a critical connection between the Board of Directors and the Local Academy Committees. Key areas of focus include alignment across the MAT, ensuring robust governance along with the provision of training/induction for Directors and Governors.
Operational / Operational Oversight
- The CEO has responsibility for leading the Trust’s professional team and for making a substantial contribution to the strategic development of the Trust. The CEO is accountable to the Directors of the Trust for the overall performance of each school and is also responsible for providing professional advice to the Trust Directors and any relevant committee.
- The Local Academy Committees will have delegated power to monitor the role of the schools, providing operational oversight. The Local Academy Committees report to the Trust Board on decisions and will also provide advice and make recommendations to the Trust Board, as applicable.
- The Leadership Forum include the CEO, CFO and Headteachers who meet regularly to drive alignment, where appropriate, across the Trust and to discuss updates across our strategic priorities.
- Each Headteacher will report directly to the CEO in relation to the direction and operation of their school, whist also retaining a substantial degree of autonomy and flexibility in carrying out their delegated responsibilities. They are also responsible to the relevant Local Academy Committee for certain matters.
Mid-Trent MAT Governance Structure
The Executive Committee has corporate responsibility for the overall formulation and implementation of strategies and policies approved by the Board of Trustees. It is comprised of the Chief Executive Officer, Accounting Officer, Business Manager and the head teachers from each academy.
